Con is short for convention. A convention is a gathering of people who are interested in the same things, who want to interact with others who have the same interests, learn more about what they love, and compete in their areas of expertise. For anime, comics, steampunk, SciFi, and pop culture conventions like AMA-CON, people usually dress up in costume as their favorite character or wear handmade attire — this is called “cosplay.” At AMA-CON we have gaming tournaments, cosplay contests, expert panels, an art show, entertainment, and more!

The 2019 AMA-CON will take place on Saturday, August 3th, 2019 from 11 AM to 7 PM and Sunday, August 4th, 2019 from 12 NOON to 6 PM in the north half of the Amarillo Civic Center in Amarillo, Texas.

Attendees are expect to follow AMA-CON policies and guidelines. Those can be found directly below this FAQ.

Costumes should be appropriate for a family audience. No overly scary costumes or real weapons will be allowed. In accordance with Amarillo Public Library and Amarillo Civic Center regulations and in order to maintain the safety of all AMA-CON participants, appropriate footwear must be worn at all times. No, but you can purchase them at the Friends of the Library store at the convention.

You are responsible for your belongings while at AMA-CON. Please watch your belongings and do not leave them unattended for any period of time.

Registration for gaming tournaments will take place during AMA-CON in the South Exhibit Hall. Registration for cosplay contests will be held in the Regency Room. An events schedule will be available to check times.

Food and drinks will be available for purchase through the Civic Center concession stands and from a few vendors at AMA-CON.

Yes! If they are under 13, they will need to have a guardian (age 14 or older) who is registered and will accompany them the entire time they are at AMA-CON. Free admission for children 6 and under.

AMA-CON will last 8 hours on Saturday if you arrive at 11am and stay until 7pm. AMA-CON will be directly followed by our Geek Prom. Sunday will last 6 hours if you arrive at 12 NOON and stay until 6pm.
